if you’re applying for college, take a year off and figure out who you are first. figure out what makes you happy. alone. do something meaningful and grow. travel. join americorps. check out thinking beyond borders. a gap year abroad is worth it.

really think about what you want to do with the next year of your life. we’re brought up in a society that tells kids college is the ‘right’ option after high school, but that is completely your choice.  im not saying i dont value education and a college education, but the experience that happens that semester or year off is something i wish I’d had the courage to go for.

~advice i wish someone told me last year~

715 - got past the v2+ crux. Woot woot. shoulders been in pain, EMT said it was a pinched nerve and my doctor said I have bicep tendonitis and to rest for a week/medicate.  I’ll rest after tomorrow’s climb.
Goals- inclined green v1+, purple v1, blue v2+
Edit: 716 FINISHED THE V2+

DAY 1 : 617X2

First day bouldering with Naomerz. Successfully did VB and V0 red/orange on a flat surface. and the V0’s green on the opposite wall. The new gym was way cleaner and way more friendly than I imagined. Great place to be in regards to the motivational music, friendly people, and there’s a coffee table to make your own coffee. Hopefully I’ll be comfortable enough to make some someday.

Ripped my pinky blister & hands are swollen.

Went again that day.

DAY 2 : 618

Went with Michael and Remy today. Couldn’t quite get the green inclined V1.. Climbed the same VB&V1. Got the dark blue V1 moving sideways, almost got through the light blue V1, but ripped off 2 more blisters. fuck. Got to the top on a black V0 and dark blue V1.

3 open sores, but trying to power through. Band-aids for days~

DAY 3 : 620

Dying from grad night, went again. Did everything I previously did & worked on that incline V1 all day. Got 3 up but couldn’t reach that next one. TBH haven’t seen any woman at the gym do it yet. EXTREMELY frustrating..

DAY 4 : 623X2

Went with Naomi in the morning for 30 min and got through that light blue V1 and completely tore up my hands. Everything healed has opened.. Tried the green V1 til I lost my patience. I wanna just give up, but I wont. Same holds on the same fingers are making blisters waaay painful.

Went at night with Logan and Michael. Easier to climb with them just cause we stay there for 3+hours and they they work better together. Definitely more motivated to try the new routes. Tried the orange V1 with the one hand starting grip, but AGAIN tore a finger after 3 tries. Haven’t felt this depressed about not finishing a workout bc I just physically couldn’t do it. A little similar to the feeling when I mentally wanted to go on, but physically couldn’t at the gym last summer. Except this time I didn’t break down l o l . Anyways, still couldn’t do that green V1 incline

DAY 5: 625X2

Went in the morning with Naomerz for maybe 40 min. Short climbing time, but spent most of the time trying to motivate naomz to do harder  ones. Tried the green V1 incline once again and actually ended up hearing my blister tear again. blisters on blisters, man.  (thank god it wasn’t a tendon tearing or something) Tried a handful of times & then moved on to the orange V1, but couldn’t get past 3rd one. Did the dark blue V1 moving horizontally, the dark blue V0, the black V0 and the light blue V1.

Went later in the afternoon with Logan, Michael, and Tricia. Quite the okay climbing day except for all these blisters, but fought through em all. Did the orange V0, red VB, tried the green V1 at least 15 times (didnt get it), yellow V1- (didn’t get it), light blue V1, dark blue V), tried the orange V1 again, and lost all power by the dark blue V1. Ended up dropping from the very top bc I just lost my grip/didn’t judge the height very well.

Resting til Saturday 629, hopefully my hands’ll be healed and I can just weight train at the gym until then.

today my brother called me completely shaken/crying (he’ll deny it). He was at the boston marathon standing 10 feet away from the bombs that didnt explode. i cant even comprehend why this would happen / i can’t imagine what i would do if anything happenedf to him. I’m so glad he’s alright. i didnt evn know there was a bombing until he called me. this mightve been the most stressful/heart wrenching day aside from funeral days. it really shows our mortality and how fast our lives can change. my prayers go out to all the people affected by the bombing.

keep your family close and stay safe.
